Transportation & Logistics Analyst

Description:Electro-Motive Diesel is owned by Progress Rail, a Caterpillar Company. EMD is the world's largest developer and manufacturer of locomotives for freight, intercity passenger, commuter, switching, industrial and mining customers. EMD also designs, develops and manufactures engines and generators for marine applications, offshore and land-based drilling rigs and stationary power units.


The Logistics Analyst supports day to day operations in the North American network, reviews transportation metrics, and reports on inbound material shipments into the manufacturing and distribution facilities.
Duties:• Work with the Logistics Engineer to assist in the development and support of a transportation planning process that optimizes cost, mode, lanes, and flow in the network.
• Perform monthly lane and mode analysis to identify areas of improvement
• Work with the Transportation Manager to achieve annual goals to reduce freight spend in all modes (truckload , flatbed , less-than-truckload , parcel, and air shipments).
• Drive continuous improvement in the network; document processes
• When applicable, expedite problem shipments
• Provide freight quotes to internal departments; process exception bills in the freight payment tool
• Execute tasks as needed
• Function according to the principles outlined in our “Values in Action".
Qualifications:• Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Transportation/Logistics, or Supply Chain Management.
3 - 5 years experience in Transportation and/or Logistics is preferred.
• General understanding of concepts in off-the-shelf transportation planning software
• Experience in a large Fortune 100 Corporation in Domestic & International shipping functions
• High level of analytical ability, creative thinking, and problem solving skills. Ability to articulate reporting requirements.
• Demonstrated experience implementing and using metrics to monitor network performance
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Basic transportation knowledge; ability to research and respond to shipment inquiries in a timely manner
• Intermediate to expert level of understanding of MS Excel and MS Access (formulas, pivot tables, and macros) and/or other analytical tools
